Members of the Centre County hospitality industry and the broader community are coming together to support the family of a 22-year-old who died during the severe storm that tore through the region last week.
Bryce Lowman was attempting to extinguish a mulch fire the evening of April 29 on the 1500 block of University Drive in State College when he was electrocuted by a damaged power line, borough police said. He was on duty as a front desk associate at the Residence Inn State College at the time of the incident, according to a GoFundMe campaign established by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau.
The GoFundMe had raised $11,115 to assist Lowman’s family with funeral expenses as of 10 p.m. on Wednesday, exceeding its initial goal of $10,000.
“Bryce was a passionate and charismatic guy, who always went out of his way to help everyone,” a statement on the GoFundMe page reads. “He had the ability to make you smile, even on your worst day. He saw the best in everyone and looked for the positives in every situation. Bryce stood strong in his faith and lived life courageously. In his short time here, he touched many lives and will be missed more than the heart can hold.”
A new full-time staff member at the hotel, Lowman had already made a “major impact” with “his fun loving spirit and willingness to jump into any situation.”
According to his obituary, Lowman “loved basketball, the beach, the gym, exotic cars, fashion and hanging with friends.”
Lowman is survived by his parents, three brothers, grandparents and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held on Saturday at Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg.
